Tony Hughes
Award winning pilot
Tony Hughes can boast more than 30 years experience
in the air.
As
a teenager he won a flying scholarship in 1972,
completed at Doncaster Aero Club, and was awarded
a university cadetship in 1973 with the London
University Air Squadron.
His many achievements in the skies include winning
the European and World open hang gliding championships
in the early 1980s.
He gained a coveted place on the British national
hang gliding team in 1981 to twice represent
his country at the World Hang Gliding Championships
in Japan and in 1983 at the world championships
in Germany.
1984 saw his interest in microlight flying
gather speed when he began work as series test
pilot in development of the XL series flexwing.
In 1988 he established Wiltshire Microlight
Centre building on his success in the air -
the business relocated to Yatesbury in 1995.
In 1993 he was awarded senior inspector status
by the BMAA's chief inspector.
Tony now dedicates his time to sharing his
many years' experience with fellow enthusiasts,
whether they are just starting on the path to
flight or trained pilots.
Andrew Jones
Andrew
obtained his NPPL & Instructor rating at
the world famous Popham airfield in Hampshire,
obtaining his instructor rating under the direct
training of Mac Smith. Once qualified Andrew
took up the role of full time instructor at
Popham, achieving over 1,000 hours of instructional
flying time.
The opportunity recently arose for Andrew to
work alongside industry icon Tony Hughes, based
at Yatesbury in Wiltshire and in working together
the Wiltshire Microlight Centre is set to become
the choice location for microlight flying and
training.
Julian Midder
The
latest addition to our team of instructors at
Yatesbury.
Recent winner of the dawn to dusk aerial challenge
in which he beat all other types of aviators
flying from the Scilly Isles to the top of the
Shetlands in Northern Scotland flying for 14
hours in one day in his Mistral biplane microlight.
Julian will safely teach you with precision
and enthusiasm.
